Hope House and Blue Springs Police Department Partner for Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign This October
[Blue Springs, MO] – Hope House, a domestic violence agency serving Eastern Jackson County, is excited to announce a collaborative domestic violence awareness campaign in partnership with the Blue Springs Police Department for Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
This initiative, Voices of Hope, will feature 20 purple silhouettes throughout the City of Blue Springs, each with a QR code linking to victim and survivor stories and domestic violence facts. The public is encouraged to visit each silhouette and take a photo and submit to the “selfie challenge” to be entered to win prizes at the end of the month.
Domestic Violence Detective Jacoba Jacobsen began working on this project earlier this year to help raise awareness of domestic violence and educate the Blue Springs community on resources available to victims. With the help of Blue Springs high school students and the Blue Springs Chamber Leadership Class who designed, cut, and painted the silhouettes, Detective Jacobsen was able to make her idea a reality.
"When creating Voices of Hope, we wanted to create something that brought awareness and understanding to the community, while invoking conversation in all ages and instilling prevention,” said Detective Jacoba Jacobsen, domestic violence detective at Blue Springs Police Department. “What a better way to educate and provide clear pathways of resources for victims than to partner with Hope House.”
Voices of Hope will begin on Wednesday, September 30th with a coffee kickoff event at the Blue Springs Police Department from 8:00-9:00 AM. Silhouettes will be on display for community partners to preview before they are placed throughout the city later that day. Silhouettes will be available to view October 1st through October 27th.
