Donate Money

There are several ways you can help Hope House financially:

Make an Online Donation

Hope House is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of our supporters to achieve its mission of providing safety and support for victims of domestic violence and their families. We assist nearly 10,000 domestic violence victims from around the Kansas City area each year. Your contribution can make an enormous difference in the life of a victim of abuse. Here are some examples of the essential services your donation can help provide:

  • $30 provides one night of housing in shelter for one woman escaping abuse.
  • $45 could feed our 104 shelter residents for one day.
  • $100 could provide a child in shelter 1 supervised visit with his/her father.
  • $150 could provide 5 women with legal advocacy for 1 court appearance.
  • $300 could provide a week's worth of meals to all of our shelter residents.

Our partnership with Network for Good provides us with a secure donation site that allows you to customize your donation.

  • Designate a particular program for your gift or let us choose the program that needs it most
  • Dedicate your gift in a loved one's memory or honor (we'll even notify the honoree of the gift)
  • Easily set up monthly or yearly recurring gifts

Does your employer match your contribution? You can double or even triple your gift by filling out your employer's matching gift form. Check with you human resources department for a form. It’s easy to fill out with the information from your Network for Good receipt.

Capital Campaign

On average, 52 women and children reside in each shelter. Our Independence facilities have two rooms for therapy services, seating 10 and 15 people, respectively. Only one office and the group rooms are accessible to people with mobility concerns. Counting 6 staff clinicians and 6 interns currently providing individual counseling, there are twice as many individuals providing therapy services as there are offices for them to use.

"Clients may be turned away not because we do not have a clinician but because we have no space in which to see them." -- Hope House clinical staff notes

The J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation in Tulsa, Oklahoma signaled their belief in our vision to better provide services by offering us a $525,000 challenge grant which provided that we raise an additional $1.4 million in support of the campaign by January 1, 2010. We have reached that goal and now need to raise an additional $200,000 in order to qualify for a $600,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation which will allow us to complete the campaign.

Please join us in bringing $600,000 into our community
by providing a gift to successfully conclude the Building Hope campaign.

Non-Traditional Gifts

Give the gift that will benefit generations: endowments are permanent legacies that provide significant donor recognition as well as support for our programs in perpetuity. The principal of your endowment gift is invested and the income from the investment is used to continue providing safety and support services for victims of domestic violence in our community.

Deferred gifts, or planned giving, may allow you to provide a larger legacy than outright gifts made during your lifetime. Your planned gift will contribute to the future strength of the institution and enable Hope House to carry forward the work and ideals in which you believe.

Planned gifts may be in the form of bequests, life insurance, qualified retirement plans or real estate. We encourage you and your legal/financial advisors to work with the Development Office staff to plan deferred gifts.

To discuss endowments or planned giving, please contact Diane at 816-257-9327 or dmarty@hopehouse.net.

Annual Giving

Each year, Hope House provides emergency shelter and assistance for more than 10,000 victims of domestic violence through various services. But we cannot do it alone. We need the support and assistance from businesses and organizations within our community. Consider adopting Hope House as your charity of choice for your annual giving.

Throughout the year your company or organization can implement a variety of activities to support Hope House in different ways. For example, you can collect urgently needed items for those residing in shelter one month; invite a speaker from Hope House to educate staff on domestic violence issues another month; collect monetary donations the next month; organize a volunteer project for Hope House, etc. These activities are not only incredibly rewarding for your group, but can also be tremendous team building experiences.

For more information about adopting Hope House for your annual giving, please contact Gretchen at 816.257.9342or ghicks@hopehouse.net.
