Domestic Violence Shelter and More: Hope House

Hope House can house 122 women and children in two secure shelters in the Kansas City metro area.

Domestic Violence Shelter

Hope House services form a safety net of prevention, education and support for more than 10,000 victims of domestic violence every year. Residential and outreach services are provided through two secure locations in Independence and Lee’s Summit, Missouri (the Kansas City metro area).

Each location features a shelter (we can house up to 122 women and children in both shelters), early childhood center, therapy space, administration offices and community training facilities.

Over the past 29 years, Hope House programs and services have expanded to include:

  • outreach therapy
  • court and legal program
  • a safe visitation center
  • hospital-based advocacy
  • on-call women's advocates who work with area police departments
  • professional trainings on domestic violence for medical students, newly recruited police officers, corporations, hospital personnel and social workers

Domestic Violence Statistics at Hope House

Hope House's hotline and programs help more than 10,000 victims of domestic violence each year. In January 2012 alone we logged the following numbers:

Number of women in shelter: 108

Number of children in shelter: 97

Number of hotline calls: 298

Even with 100% funding and staffing, the need would still be greater than the resources available. For those we are able to help every day, we depend on the Kansas City community giving back to their neighbors in need through monetary donations and volunteer hours.
